  • The Association Between High-Dose Diuretics and Clinical Stability in Ambulatory Chronic Heart Failure Patients

    2008, Journal of Cardiac Failure
    Citation Excerpt :

Higher doses of diuretics have also been associated with worsening renal function in a group of hospitalized patients with HF.5 Although the detrimental effects of high-dose diuretics may be partially explained by worsening renal function, it is unclear whether the relationship between high-dose diuretics and worse outcomes reflects selection bias for increased risk or a true causal relationship.16 A recent analysis of ambulatory patients demonstrated that in patients with advanced HF, there is an independent dose-dependent association between diuretic use and impaired survival.3
